2007

This is a photo, and some words from every day of my 2007. Sticking strictly to the word count limits. This journal is mirrored everyday on Flickr.

I am looking forward. As you can tell from the picture. Not sure what to or what for. But I think I'll find out.

Happy Birthday Alan! Sorted a few things today. Successfully complained about the Kitkats. "A gesture" is on it's way. Two fingers? Maybe. Drew up a list of the work that I must do. And all the things that me and Lizzie want to do together over the next few weeks. Then struck off item number one with a phone purchasing - should be delivered tomorrow. Still can't text. Lots of WLMing though - with Paras too - and talking on the phone to Lizzie. And all the time there was a dead squirrel in the kitchen.

    2007-04-02

Another late start. More talking to Lizzie than ever before I think. Rosie arrived back in the afternoon too. I found my iPod dock buried in my bag. And Lizzie's phone stopped working after dropping it bath wise. In her own words it became a device for me calling her only. Excellent. Later in the day it started to slowly recover. Even reading messages in the evening. I'm getting more impatient waiting until Thursday. Made some media about that... Had a particularly good tea. And cracked an anagram in seconds... Yeah right.

  • April 1, 2007

    2007-04-01

Another late start. And lots of talking to Lizzie. Realised that I didn't know where my little iPod dock was. Hunted but did not find. Compiled my Arran photos into a beautiful little page. Spotted a load of April fools. The Observer, Google of course, Blogoscoped, TechCrunch, and Lizzie got famous on Mashable for some Facebook fooling. Heard various things about Rosie's return date. It kept changing though - need to wait for that to settle down some more. Saw some Ze. I supplied Molly and talked to Rosie and Lizzie overnight.

    2007-03-31

Woke at geology time, and then went back to bed. Rewoke in the afternoon. Caught up on my internet affairs. Blogs, Kelner's podcast and emails. Not too much happened in my week away. $33 and a piece of fan mail - look who's popular. Looked very briefly at the computer assessed exercise and did some unpacking. Lizzie was boy shopping. Talked to Lizzie on the phone, and then online. A brief break for Dr Who and tea. But nothing else. Afterwards I did my washing. Bed at 3 something I think.

  • March 30, 2007

    2007-03-30

Home time. Thank god for that. Walked to the ferry port before 8 am. Then left the geology party at the other side. Trains with Nick until Glasgow. Then to Edinburgh with some of the Christ's massive. Geology jokes all the way. Fining up, faulting, dykes... etc. Gutted to find my Virgin train was a Midland Mainline one in disguise. Four hours sitting on it and I did maybe a quarter of the Kakuro. Neeep. Talked to Lizzie at home and went out for Daly's birthday. My belly hurt.

  • March 29, 2007

    2007-03-29

Walking boots nicked! Not mine. Heavens no. But lots of other people had to join us on the dossy Glen Rosa walk rather than the heroic Goat Fell because of it. Lunch in a bar thing with a free upgrade to a more substantial pizza. Coffee and cake at 3 pm, followed by some stocking up at the Co-op for the big journey. Later in the afternoon we had awards - congratulations to NJR - and a summary. After fluffcake it was bar time. Talked to a rather drunken Lizzie.

  • March 28, 2007

    2007-03-28

Continued the pattern of waking later and later each day. The last full day of proper geology - and rain was forecast, although it never showed up. A longish walk with not too much looking at rocks. But plenty of throwing them. Some good fossils like a giant millipede's tracks. Obviously instantly recognisable after my time in Sheffield. An early ride back to the hotel and the minibus. When the other group moved off the road that is. Watched a bit of the football then talked to Lizzie.

  • March 27, 2007

    2007-03-27

Woke really late. Just managed to buy some rolls and Pom-bears before going out to the field. Mapped several dykes in the morning and looked at a large sil in the afternoon. Also some enjoyable geology looking at intrusion dating. It was really sunny, and whilst I ate a tub of strawberry-yoghurt ice cream Lizzie enjoyed a Central Trains situation with multiple turn arounds on her way home. I wrote and sent postcards to Lizzie, Family Davyson, and Dr Adam. Heard Lizzie's mum over the phone.

  • March 26, 2007

    2007-03-26

Bought postcards, then me and Nick paired up and mapped several contacts along a river in the morning. but spent the afternoon eating on the river bank recovering from being traumatically rescued from thick smoke by a demonstrator. Yeah... no. Prepared for presenting as soon as we got back and did so at 9. Avoided some key errors and laughed a lot. You just can't have an eruption of granite Craig. Dessert forks didn't end the call, but at about 1.30 the phone battery did.

  • March 25, 2007

    2007-03-25

A day with only 23 hours. I missed the hour when I should've had breakfast. Still scrambled to the coach ontime. and with 5 fresh cheese rolls for a huge lunch. It started off cold on some of the early outcrops. But after midday it brightened up and delayering occurred. Laughed at booking arrangements. Fell asleep in the coach on the way back before listening to some tunes. And a permian joke over dinner. Found out Lizzie had gone insane... which sounded rather worrying.

  • March 24, 2007

    2007-03-24

First day on Arran. It's a lifestyle change. Breakfast at 8. Coach at 9.30. Walking and looking at rocks until 5.30. Walked through the whole of geological time... yawn... granite intrusion, Hutton's contact, dalradian rocks, conglomerates, cross bedded sandstones, fossilised bivalves... YAWN. Was very tired when got back to the hotel. Need much more lunch. Ate loads of crisps. Fruit juice for a starter, then lamb casserole, and a trio of ice cream. Yum. Went to the beach to phone you know who.

  • March 23, 2007

    2007-03-23

Woke later than I should have. Had a huge £7.50 breakfast in the hotel before going out to the coach. Looked at rocks. Then moved fither on to have lunch in a carpark. Then walked quite a way for pillow lavas. Missed the last locality due to high tide. Waited for the ferry... and finally hit Arran at about 7. In a room sharing with 2 others. Or is it 3? Got a rusty nail ready. Spoke to Lizzie. I miss her.

  • March 22, 2007

    2007-03-22

Said goodbye to Lizze. Went back home to pick up my packed bag and take the bus to the train station. 12.21 Dad at the station but he didn't see me on the train. Virgin train to Edinburgh. The a slow one to glasgow. Then a bus through the city. The train to Ayr was full, and delayed, and when it came... slow. A taxi from Prestwick to the hotel finally got me on to the field trip. Let me sleep!

  • March 21, 2007

    2007-03-21

Woke properly at 10. Lizzie and co arrived about half an hour later. Tour, trampoline, chicken action and toast before heading into town. bought shoes for me and Dave and then went back to Lizzie's flat. Got supplies of drink for the night out and phoned home to let them know I wouldn't be back until after Arran. They took it very well. Picked up Robert and started to drink. Countinued for a while before leaving for Corp. Then sleep.

  • March 20, 2007

    2007-03-20

Very good night last night. Returned home at about midday and had lunch with my dad. I slept a little in the afternoon. Then had tea and started to pack for my field trip. Suitcase for me I think. I realised I had to unpack first to find the list of things that I needed to pack. A few things that I need to buy tomorrow. Walking boots, and waterproof trousers. Planned a town trip with Lizzie for tomorrow.

  • March 19, 2007

    2007-03-19

I woke quite late. About 1 pm. I spent the day doing some more of the unpacking. But still not making much progress. I got the stereo wired up, and I got my work out of the box. I made a stab at both the computer exercise, and the physics practical write up. Outside it snowed. In the evening I went out with Lizzie, her gang and some of my school friends. Afterwards I stayed over at Lizzie's.

  • March 18, 2007

    2007-03-18

Sorry about everything Lizzie! I returned to my house at about midday. Snowing, hail, rain and sunshine on the way home. Bought lunch. Got shouted at about Mother's day. If only I'd listened to Lizzie... I had a bath. Prepared a card, and bought flowers. Then I unloaded all my stuff from the car and stuck it in my room. Began to unpack some of it - but nothing really. I went to bed early in the evening.

  • March 17, 2007

    2007-03-17

Back to Cambridge to get all of my things. Had to pack my room really quickly and leave pretty much straight afterwards. Saw a few friends too. But not everyone. I slept a little as we motored back to Sheffield. When we arrived back I had tea and then headed to Lizzie's to go to a house party. It was very good. Some house with massive rooms! After a trip to the Friery I stayed over.

  • March 16, 2007

    2007-03-16

Now a day with the cheddars. Met up at 3. Made a fool of myself with my passport trick causing us chuckage from Spoons. But we looked around some shops and got food anyway. Then hanging around for a lift back with Dom. Got to the flats and sat about and talked. I felt much more comfortable than I feared I might. I left before the film showing and bumped into JLS and friends. Home.

  • March 15, 2007

    2007-03-15

I spent most of the day out of bed. A first since the illness arrived. Lizzie came round to my house. And we talked, and ate, and met my dad, and met my sisters, and (briefly) met my mum, and (much less briefly) met the lodger, and collected Ella from school, and went out in the garden... Good times. She went back to her flat in the late afternoon. I wanted to join her...

  • March 14, 2007

    2007-03-14

Enough is enough. I phoned my dad and asked to be collected later that day. Went to the doctors with Beth in the morning but the man was very dismissive. Very common apparently. He gave us some more drugs. My dad arrived at about half one and we left straight away. Back home at last. Everything already felt better. Had to get used to having parents again fast. Arranged to see Lizzie tomorrow.

  • March 13, 2007

    2007-03-13

Phoned the plodge in the morning and got the college nurse to see me. She came at about midday and took me to sick bay. A two-bed-hospital somewhere quiet with stuff from about 20 years ago. The nurse gave me more drugs, but there was really still nothing to do. Still lots of sweat. Still hard to swallow anything. But I ate some of a meal - my first meal since Saturday. Slept.

  • March 12, 2007

    2007-03-12

Another day of yuck. I lay in bed all day. I had informed all my supervisors that I was done for the term - no more work from me. Replies to these messages started to trickle in. All ok. They said concentrate on getting better. I watched about half of airplane. And I almost went insane with nothing to do apart from sleep. And the builders were against me even doing that.

  • March 11, 2007

    2007-03-11

Felt awful when I woke. In the afternoon phoned my mother to tell her that I wasn't feeling at all well. She arranged for Beth to come round. James brought me over a pizza but I could only manage to eat one slice. Beth brought Lucozade, Strepsils and orange juice. My throat was very sore and my bed very sweaty. Kept changing the bedding. But couldn't do it quick enough.

  • March 10, 2007

    2007-03-10

2 months in. Still standing. Lizzie booked her train tickets for the holidays. Home for one week only. Messed around a lot online. And had a shower. Heard from Nick that the maths takes ages. I think that is when I started to feel ill first. Still messed around. Skyped Lizzie, which was nice. Later I really did feel ill. Hobbled to plodge but they wouldn't give me drugs.

  • March 9, 2007

    2007-03-09

Not happy with the third night out in a row I decided definitely not to go out tonight. However I ended up going along to Spoons with the gang. Police everywhere. Keith stopped James on the door, but once in burgers all round. Andy decided to go for a lets be drunk by myself sort of situation. Ordering several large pitchers for himself. Went home and phoned Lizzie.

  • March 8, 2007

    2007-03-08

Wow! Very good night at Cindy's. Woke to Lizzie's results. Very good stuff. Well done. Didn't eat my lunch. Rode over to the physics practical which was with Darty again. Chose to do the gyroscope. Oh dear. Worked in the library in the evening and then made the mistake of Soul Tree. Was definitely not drunk enough for anything like that. Came home quite early for chatting.

  • March 7, 2007

    2007-03-07

Ended up going to Life last night. Somehow woke early and went to lectures! A very odd series of events. Didn't go to the second lecture I must say - but it is better than nothing. Nick just missed Blantyre. Letter and all sorts of goodies from Mark in the post. Walked around all of the housing with James, before Cindy's for a big night with everyone.

  • March 6, 2007

    2007-03-06

Balloting day. Woke at about 12. Chemistry supervision at 12. Running made that ok. Went to ballot after the maths supervision. I am living in room 17 next year. Maybe we messed up. Kneah. Went to see the house with Nick. Then went out in the evening to the bar and to Life. Talked to Lizzie who got chucked out of Plug. Drunk together. Nearly.

  • March 5, 2007

    2007-03-05

Slept until about 11.30. Gave Nick his present. Went for a meal deal at Boots and shopping at Sainsbury's. Then read up on some missed physics lectures. At 4 I had the supervision I slept through last week. It was pretty good. Geology was fine too. Went to bar, but had to leave to work. Chatted in my room. Maths was done by 5.

  • March 4, 2007

    2007-03-04

Brunch quite late in the day, but it was my first big meal in days. More sheet changing. Illish. Getting better though. Lots of news: Lizzie maybe not going home over Easter. Mark replied: sounds promising, emailed him some dates. And heartbreak in Emma. I finished my physics quite early, went to spoons, spoke to Lizzie, and stayed up until 8 with chemistry.

  • March 3, 2007

    2007-03-03

Looking around places to live next year. Barnwell then Blantyre, and finally Warkworth. We'll be in one of the latter two. Lizzie found flights for Germany so I emailed Mark to check stuff out. It was "Indie in Da Bar", but was apparently shite. I didn't go, had to do my physics. Although it was quite doable I didn't do it. Talked.

  • March 2, 2007

    2007-03-02

Woke up very late. And didn't do very much. I walked into town for a hot dog, but both the vendors were closed. Walked further - and into a cyclist - to get a sausage roll. Got a text from Adam. In the evening Lizzie was under the influence in a big way and cut her arm and leg. Talked to her lots.

  • March 1, 2007

    2007-03-01

Day 50 of something new. Things are going swimmingly. She can't wait to hear how I am going to dump her... Missed lectures again and went to the chemistry practical late. Got told off. Left at 3.30, got a burger and chatted with Mrs a-first-and-a-two-two Davyson. Actual name change coming soon. Worked in the library. Lizzie stopped me feeling glum.

  • February 28, 2007

    2007-02-28

Slept in, and didn't go to lectures. It was a very late night the night before. Then I bummed around college for almost the entire day. Yeti, thinking about maybe working... and then more yeti. In the evening I went to see the play again, and had a nosebleed mid-show. Awkward. Spoke to Lizzie who was under the influence.

  • February 27, 2007

    2007-02-27

Went to lectures. Had the last lecture from Keeler who finished in applause. Hanged around with Nick to waste an hour in the BMS and went to the chemistry supervision. Got murdered in the maths supervision. And slept for the afternoon. Woken by James at 7.30 pm Bought pizza and saw Fran's play. And then raved at Cindy's.

  • February 26, 2007

    2007-02-26

Stayed up all night. Finished work at 20 to 9. Went to lectures and the practical. They were quite shitty though. Sometime after 3.30 I fell asleep to be woken at 6 just in time for the geology supervision. But having missed the physics. Set myself up to do the maths and with Nick's help - did it.

  • February 25, 2007

    2007-02-25

Woke late again. Started working quickly though. The geology essay and map exercise were done by 2. Then I began the physics. Lots of time eating crunch corners, and peanut butter sandwiches, and a couple of phone calls to Lizzie meant I didn't finish it until gone 3 am. After that I didn't go to bed.

  • February 24, 2007

    2007-02-24

Great night out with my sister. Dancing to what I later identified as Banquet. Woke late though and didn't go to my lectures. Spoke to Lizzie who was with the usuals. Bought a hot dog, and 12 crunch corners. Worked in the library in the afternoon. Well did some, slept some. Yetied. Work or bowl?

  • February 23, 2007

    2007-02-23

Hat tip to the Yeti Master! Went to all contact time. Riley finished her course to applause. Niels was more boring than ever. Got tied up moving a bed across Cambridge in the early afternoon. Fluttered away a few hours buying a new phone, and getting an overdraft. Bought pizza and am heading out.

  • February 22, 2007

    2007-02-22

Not so busy after all. Attended lectures as is now normal. And then lost my keys. Spent about an hour looking for them. Went to a physics practical with a witch with long fingernails. Well done. Had a long supervision, and went to the bar. Lizzie saw Bloc Party and they were fit.

  • February 21, 2007

    2007-02-21

Wow! Attended both lectures and a practical. One was ok, the others were fairly rubbish. But still better than not going at all. I think. Then I had to face a huge build up of chemistry. Had 20 to do, did about 15. Talked to Lizzie. Tomorrow is busy for us both.

  • February 20, 2007

    2007-02-20

It's a no! Thank Jeremy... Woke at 8. Preclothed, and work not yet done. Apologies to Nick. Attended both lectures (things are changing) and a supervision. Hadn't done the maths but still managed to get some of it sorted in the supervision. Now battling chemistry. Stereo: Girl that speaks no words.

  • February 19, 2007

    2007-02-19

Lizzie left Cambridge at 10. I love you Lizzie. I went to a practical and a lecture. Central trains were delayed of course meaning she got around 4. I emailed two of my supervisors with apologies for not doing the work they set, got a new SIM card and slept.

  • February 18, 2007

    2007-02-18

Woke earlier. Went for brunch in hall. Returned to my room to finish my physics work. In the evening we ate a very short meal in hall, fish cakes no thanks... so headed to spoons but Keith was in a stress so went to the Fountain Inn. Bed late.

  • February 17, 2007

    2007-02-17

Next patient please... Woke quite late to a couple of extra large hot dogs. I did physics work whilst Lizzie slept. In the evening we hit a Christian festival. Free hot chocolate and cake... but semi-offensive man talking at us for ages. Gary fell asleep in my bed.

  • February 16, 2007

    2007-02-16

I went to two lectures and a practical. Arrived late to the first though. One new lecturer who was quirky and Dutch. Lizzie arrived at 3.55 pm. We talked, and went to hall, and went to the bar. Clare was planned but never quite happened. Then sleep.

  • February 15, 2007

    2007-02-15

Again missed lectures. Got a phone call telling me to go to my practical at 11. I went but was late. No punishment for not doing the work last time. In the lunch break got another hot dog, and bought wine. Formal tonight. I feel sleepy.

  • February 14, 2007

    2007-02-14

I woke late (of course) into Valentines Day! A shuffle from Lizzie, with Fi music and a fit card. Thank you. I love you Lizzie. Lizzie is yet to open my gift to her... eeek. Also today: missed lectures, doctors shortly, and letter from Mark.

  • February 13, 2007

    2007-02-13

Took Harry to lectures. Aholicly I was up late doing maths so could only take one lecture in the morning. Then I slept until supervisons. Two large hot dogs for lunch at 4. Had a Christian party, and a takeaway. Talked to Lizzie. Neeeep.

  • February 12, 2007

    2007-02-12

Went to bed at 5 am. But John Physics didn't even mark it. Thanks. Went to one lecture, to a practical, shopping with Andy for lingerie, to a christian lunch and did my maths work. Still not done it, but Nick is helping.

  • February 11, 2007

    2007-02-11

A week and a half of physics, two weeks of chemistry, and a week of maths. Should all have been done today. So far I am almost half way through the physics... Parents came down for a meal. That was very nice.

  • February 10, 2007

    2007-02-10

Went to bed rather early. Went to sleep rather late. Missed another two lectures. That is six I have missed this week I think. I only have twelve. Woke late. Sent my gift to Lizzie, and talked to her. Work now.

  • February 9, 2007

    2007-02-09

Missed another lecture. Just one though, and went to the geology one. Went to a Christian talk, took two sandwiches. Did my geology homework quite quickly. The builders have moved back in which makes working in my room quite hard.

  • February 8, 2007

    2007-02-08

Some real snow! And interestingly this time nothing was cancelled. I decided not to do the work for a chemistry practical, and because of my drunkenness found myself discussing Cambridge feelings with Katie. I am staying. And I'm working.

  • February 7, 2007

    2007-02-07

Woke feeling very tired, and with a sore throat. Decided to stay in bed. Missed two lectures and a practical. Naughty, naughty. Since I have covered a whole book in chemistry. More to do though. Getting wasted tonight.

  • February 6, 2007

    2007-02-06

Watched Magnolia, and had a pretty good maths supervision. Me and Nick both missed the same minus sign... Hmmm. What were the chances? Need to do chemistry, and physics, and geology. And the new maths. I'm hungry.

  • February 5, 2007

    2007-02-05

Lots of work to do to make up for the weekend. Thanks to Zach this was made much easier. Got told off a little by John Physics for not completing the work. And did my maths.

  • February 4, 2007

    2007-02-04

Woke after midday. Walked with Lizzie to the station. Felt really sad to see her leave. Such a short stay. I love you Lizzie. I hope you had a good time. I know I did.

  • February 3, 2007

    2007-02-03

Didn't sleep much. Had lectures at 9. Returned at 11 and went out to Boots for a snack, and then introduced my sister to Lizzie. Cafe Nero, Savinos, Zizzi's. Bar extension later. And sleep.

  • February 2, 2007

    2007-02-02

Lizzie arrived at 5 pm. She was really ill but still came. After a shitty GNER journey we ate in Hall, and then raved in the bar and at Kings. It was awesome.

  • February 1, 2007

    2007-02-01

I woke earlier than ever. Had time to shower before lectures. Chemistry practical was dull, but I left early and got some bedding. I no longer like Orangina. 24 hours to go.

  • January 31, 2007

    2007-01-31

Lizzie is very ill. She fainted today. I really really hope that she gets better soon. Also today: I missed a lecture, and did geology homework in the geology room. Innit.

  • January 30, 2007

    2007-01-30

I'm really appreciating my brand new neighbours. They go to bed before me, but they wake up much earlier. If only they could've woken me to hand in my maths.

  • January 29, 2007

    2007-01-29

Was up far too late the night before working for a supervision that I had to leave early. Got a hair cut, and a first in the geology exam.

  • January 28, 2007

    2007-01-28

I slept too late. And I didn't do enough work. But at least I didn't join Facebook. One major positive today came in at 75p. Yes I will.

  • January 27, 2007

    2007-01-27

Blue October LIVE on March 17th with Lizzie. Present for February 14th sorted. Formal at 7.35, wasn't great. All work is still pending. I will start now.

  • January 26, 2007

    2007-01-26

Worse lecture of university so far in which I wish I'd fallen asleep. Many difficulties with feelings. And no I won't take it like a man.

  • January 25, 2007

    2007-01-25

Two shit lectures. One shit practical. A non-shit exam for Lizzie. A long but non-shit shift library wise. Then some shit news. Incredibly shit news.

  • January 24, 2007

    2007-01-24

Snow! Well it wasn't what I call snow. A tiny sprinkling. Nothing really. One lecture cancelled due to lack of power. No work done.

  • January 23, 2007

    2007-01-23

Lizzie is coming to Cambridge. As soon as next week! I am so excited. It will be completely brilliant. Maths: 1, Physics: 2.i.

  • January 22, 2007

    2007-01-22

I had a few supervisions. No results through though. I felt like a slug. Lizzie felt like chicken. Went to bed early.

  • January 21, 2007

    2007-01-21

One piece of work to do today. That was it. And at midnight, it is still not done. That is typical.

  • January 20, 2007

    2007-01-20
